Iona Falls 10-7 to LaSalle but Makes It Up Against L.I.U. 17-7


On Saturday, the Iona College Gaels fell to the LaSalle Explorers 10-7. Sophomore attacker, Brenna Lade led the Gaels with three goals on the afternoon. Coming in next with two goals was junior attacker Kylie Gregory while Senior attacker Emily Taddei and sophomore midfielder Nina Veneziale scored one a piece.
Junior Nancy Ibrahim made 13 saves in the loss.
On Wednesday, The Gaels took on Long Island University at 3 p.m. on Mazzella Field. In the pouring rain, Iona surpassed L.I.U. 17-7.
Sophomore midfielder Nina Veneziale led the Gaels on the day with six points (3 goals; 3 assists). Junior attacker Kylie Gregory followed with five points (4 goals; 2 assist). Senior midfielder Casey Scully had three goals while fellow senior attacker Emily Taddei and sophomore attacker Brenna Lade added another two each. Junior attacker Brittney Mabus, sophomore attacker Nicole Brancaccio and freshman midfielder Meghan Testoni scored one goal a piece.
Right before the half, L.I.U. (0-2) almost caught up, the score being 6-5, but Iona (2-2) took control of the game once again in the second half, only allowing two goals.
Iona outshot Long Island 35-17.
Junior goalie Nancy Ibrahim made three saves while sophomore goalie Maria Ortiz (this was her first game back after having mono) made four saves.
This Saturday, Iona will once again be on Mazzella field hosting Central Connecticut State at 1 p.m.
